Wilmslow custom Floorstanding Speakers in Cherry, Audionote wired, SEAS drivers
Pair of floorstanding speakers, each incorporating a pair of SEAS P21 Rex bass/mid drivers, with SEAS T25CF EXCEL tweeter, housed in custom built Wilmslow cabinets. They have received very little usage as i bought another pair of speakers while i was waiting for them to be built, i had a specialist build some bespoke crossovers for them, and used Audionote Lexus LX96 litz copper speaker wire, so they have the very best components in them. Awhile ago i was using a pair of semi-active open baffle speakers with powered subs that sounded great, but looked very heath robinson and home made, and i decided that i would get someone to make me a pair of custom built cabinets specifically designed for the drivers/tweeters that i was using.
After a few blind alleys and incompetent advice i was led by several people to Wilmslow Audio Design near Leicester who gave me sound advice and subsequently built these speaker cabinets designed to use the drivers i liked and wanted to use, luckily they also knew the drivers i was using and were very positive about them too. They designed the cabinets similar to the Living Voice Avatars and Pro-Ac designs with offset [handed] tweeters and close spaced drivers to enable a smooth frequency response keeping the identical bass/mids as close to each other as possible, these are used in tandem so both drivers receive exactly the same frequency, i had them build acoutically transparent grilles and the optional solid plinths drilled out for spike inserts, the spikes are included in the sale. The resultant design has proved to be very good and has a high degree of transparency with easy driving capabilities that i desired to use with low powered triode amplifiers, also the bass extends lower than the LV Avatars i owned before, mainly down to using 2x8" drivers instead of 2x6.5", butyl surrounds too , so no driver rot. An optimally shaped dome and a wide SONOMEX surround, both manufactured by SEAS, ensure excellent performance and consistency. Low viscosity magnetic fluid which provides excellent cooling while maintaining a low resonance frequency.6 mm solid metal front plate with a slight loading characteristic which ensures linear frequency response, and a stiff and stable connection to the cabinet. A substantial injection-moulded rear chamber, with complex internal shape and reinforcing ribs, which eliminate unwanted chamber resonances and reflections. A double magnet system which increases sensitivity and provides better control of the voice coil.
