This combination of a wide-band, wide dispersion paper coned driver with an upward firing Kapton ribbon tweeter and rear ported cabinet gives a convincing impression of live instruments and voices. The overall priority in the design and tuning is to represent the signature characteristics of different instruments; the easier it is to imagine how the sound is formed then the musicians articulation and performance become more obvious. They are quite revealing of the reproduction chain and can give exceptional results from good recordings and quality partners, needing amplifiers with minimum 15w to show their potential in a normal room. Placement should be slightly toed-in about 1/4 metre from rear walls or 1/2 metre from corners, where they will give a deep, articulate bass foundation without booming.

The cabinets are exclusively Birch plywood to achieve the tone and vitality in the sound. A unique construction method separates each panel with a neoprene damping layer, reducing vibration transfer through the structure and the outer panels have a further neoprene layer sandwiched by a high quality Birch facing. Together with the output arrangement this results in a notably open, un-boxy sound. Finishes are hand worked direct treatments of the Birch surfaces and laminated baffles - rather like stripping the heavy surface lacquer from a guitar to allow the wood a more natural resonance. Position the sSpeakers approx 15 - 2 0cm from the horn mouth to the rear wall, angled inwards a little.

You can experiment with positioning for optimum room interaction later when the drivers have settled. The driver materials need time to become flexible, so gradually introduce bass and volume over the first 50 hours. It is useful to keep the Speakers playing even at very low volume, they are still vibrating. Although obviously you want to hear what they can do, patience for a few days will be rewarded with a more musical Speaker as a result. The sound is quite acceptable to listen during the running-in period. The main changes will happen in the first 100 - 150 hours, the sound will open to become dynamic and transparent and the bass will develop in volume and definition, but improvements will continue up to 1,000 hours. There is a physical stop protection built into the drivers, which you will hear if the cone reaches it's 8mm maximum travel - when you play too loud bass! The wood treatment used is German Osmo hard wax oil. It has good chemical and water resistance to cleaning. It is an'in-wood' finish and has a natural wood appearance. If you would like a more glossy style, allow 3-4 weeks to fully cure, then you can either wipe on a further thin coat of Poly-X Gloss, add a clear wax coating or use a polish containing beeswax.
