Here we have a pair of speakers from the Gold Reference range from Monitor Audio. At one time the Gold series were the top range from this British company who have always been known for cabinet finishes.
Our examples come in the Oak finish and in fully working condition with just a little discolouration and a few marks - please see photographs. All our speakers are hand crafted and assembled at purpose-built factory units in England. We have over 27 years' experience applying traditional woodworking skills to loudspeaker cabinet construction. More compact than the Gold Reference 60, the three-way Gold Reference 20 nevertheless packs a massive punch. Its unique dual cavity cabinet design is a variant of that used in the larger Gold Reference 60. PuresoundT crossover technology allows the mid-band section to have a wider frequency window than usual. The result is stunning clarity and purity right across the audio spectrum allied to superb integration and musical presentation.The Monitor Audio PuresoundT crossover technology uses no in-line caps which allows the mid-band section to have a wider frequency window than usual. The drivers are so closely matched, that the midrange capacitor is not needed. The result is stunning mid-range clarity and deeper wider imaging than formerly thought possible. The outspoken plinths with the gold cones not only look a million but lower the centre of gravity giving the GR 20 a stable platform. RSTT Rigid Surface Technology Cone Monitor Audio pioneered the C-CAM driver material many years ago. The new RST/C-CAM driver is much improved. The dimpled surface of the Gold Reference mid-bass cones provide a very rigid surface that's resistant to mechanical bending forces.The dimpled RSTT pattern effectively displaces any standing waves than can propagate across the cone surface. The RSTT cone remains a constant shape and diameter throughout the working frequency range. In a conventional cone that is allowed to bend, the deformation will result in distortion.
It is true to say that in a typical model of the RSTT cone, the distortion can be negated, resulting in a high resolution reproduction. To summarize, the RSTT pattern allied to the rigid cone top and radially braced inner edge increases the working band of the loudspeaker in accordance with the rigid piston approximation.
