Rare Very Hi End Wharfedale Opus 2 Floorstanding Speakers in Cherry Wood
Pair of very rare, beautifully hand crafted and finished, Wharfedale Opus 2 speakers in cherry wood. Immaculate and in perfect working order. The Opus range was created as a hand built and tested, showcase reference design by Wharfedale and has obsessive attention to detail. I would thoroughly recommend taking a few moments to confirm this with a quick google!
Each set is built at the same time to ensure consistency and match of materials, and tested at the factory upon completion (see pic showing documents) to ensure quality and balance as a pair. The test outputs are retained by Wharfedale so that should a replacement part be required it can be manufactured and finished to fit this pair exactly to retain audio standards. The wood is hand matched, real wood veneer coated with several coats of high gloss lacquer that gives them eye catching beauty while still being hardwearing. Neither speaker has ever been placed in direct sunlight so the pair looks as good as the day they were crafted. Internally, they are constructed to equally high standards and closer to studio speakers than straightforward home speakers, for example the 75mm fabric domes, 200mm bass driver with Kevlar cones and a 27mm fabric tweeter.The cabinets are internally braced and have a beautiful curved shape. The base is wide for stability and provides the option for long or short metal spikes with cushioned floor cups (all included) or use without spikes at all.
These are high end speakers, ideally suited for front channel use in a theatre environment or for outstanding music reproduction. They are neutral across the range but may come across as a tiny bit harsh or bright if fed a poorly mastered input. They are relatively forgiving but I would recommend a good quality amp and source to get the absolute best from them and they absolutely shine in mid to high range. The units are fully bi-wireable and tri-wirable (although I have never tried tri-wiring) and have solid gold plated connections. They do come with the two original grills, however several of the plastic pegs have broken. Personally I think they look better without the grills, however I think they could be repaired relatively easily or a new set obtained from Wharfedale should you wish to do so. I have owned these units from new and had always planned to keep them forever. Sadly, personal circumstances dictate that I must, very reluctantly, sell them.
