The same method of adding extra layers of glued hardboard and MDF was also applied to all the cabinet surface, apart from the bases (which are solid butchers block). The crossover is now mounted externally to aid.
The real light oak veneer and had the butcher block plinths have had two coats of PolyX Oil - the best oil for hardwood. All-in-all a significant sonic improvement, each speaker weighs around 20Kg - no lightweights by any means, good Bass response and accurate Treble (to my ears anyway). The last photo shows some original parts that will also be included in this listing. The tweeters are by Peerless and the Bass/mid drivers are TDL NOS. Both units have been used in the later Mk2 version.
Internally rewired with silver-plated OFC PTFE cable. Crossover mounted external, hardwired and upgraded with ClarityCaps on the tweeter section (indentation on one crossover cover, shown in 2nd last photo). The topology is the later Mk2 design. Extra laminated layers added to original chipboard cabinets to reduce resonance.
They are now very inert. Veneered in light oak, treated with PolyX Hard Wax oil. Please note there are some small cracks where the veneer has dried out and also few age-related marks and dings.
There is also some darkening on the top panels caused by sunlight. Overall though I think they look a lot better than the originals. Removable front baffle giving access to the drive units and damping material (should you wish to adjust this). Inverted drivers to angle the sound upwards. Solid wood plinths added to the base with inserts ready for spikes (not supplied).Overall dimensions are now approximately 780mm high 220mm wide and 248mm deep (excluding the crossover box).
